And why would He do this prior to invading? What is the point of all this preliminary
warfare? It is to save those within that
terrible city. It is to ensure that they
do not suffer from the terrible battle about to unfold. It is so that when the King rides back into
the city to destroy everyone that these innocent and obedient servants of the
King are not destroyed as well. So
wonderful is this King that He would charge into the enemy’s fortified city to
save even the smallest of His people that are yet trapped within. He would ride in Himself to make a blatant
statement against His enemies. He would
ride in Himself to show His own people that He is unafraid. He would ride in Himself to show His own
people that He loves them and desires to save them. He is their hero! He is their champion! He is their mighty warrior!
Then the King would gather His new recruits out of the city and
pull them back to prepare for the battle.
He would line them up with the rest of His army. He would arrange them rank by rank before the
walled city, further intimidating His enemies within. Even while the enemies close up their gates
and attempt to solidify their own defenses, the King, Jesus, prepares His
people for the final battle. Even while
the enemies begin to bolster their own courage and defiance again, Jesus
inspires His people and prepares them for the invasion. This brings us to the point in Revelation
where the Son of Man with the sickle comes on the cloud.
